Ms. Laya Ballesteros is from the United States. She has a Bachelor of Science in Art Education from the University of Maryland, College Park. She has a MsEd from Bank Street College of Education. Her studies at Bank Street earned her degree in Educatonal Leadership with a focus in Technology In The Arts. Ms. Ballesteros was born and raised in San Francisco, CA. Her family later relocated to a suburb outside Washington, D.C. Ms. Ballesteros began her teaching career in 2001 at a public school in Maryland then later moving to New York City in 2007 to start an art program at a public charter school in Brooklyn. After 9 years at this school, she moved into private education taking a job as the lower school art teacher at an international school in Manhattan. Outside of the classroom, Ms. Ballesteros enjoys traveling, hanging with friends/family, and doing social justice and equity work. Ms. Ballesteros is a very passionate arts educator and has spent the last 20 years sharing her passion with young children. This will be her second year in a middle school art room and is looking forward to sharing her passion with the middle school students at St. Paul and learning from them. She hopes to empower every student to find their voice through the creative art making process.
